Dear Brittle Paperians,
We invited a wonderful group of writers to create beautiful pieces for the littlest readers. In the last decade, there has been a notable surge in BIPOC representation in children’s literature to ensure young readers see themselves mirrored in stories. With that spirit, Bookling Corner presents a collection of 19 pieces—from nursery rhymes, poems, short stories, comics, to bedtime tales—curated and introduced by Tahzeeb Akram.
Why Bookling Corner Matters
Growing up as a bookworm, Tahzeeb often sought stories that reflected her identity and family. Like many readers of colour, she found few that resonated. Today, access to stories by African and diasporic authors has grown. When Tahzeeb became an aunt, she felt joy knowing her niece could grow up reading characters who looked like her, her friends, and her community. Now, she helps build that world through this anthology
At its core, the anthology aims to nurture representation, emotional belonging, and imaginative joy in young readers.
